Missions In Action

Abundant Life Missions, is a 501c3 charitable organization, federally approved in 2003. Our ministry is interdenominational and international. We are based in Los Angeles, California. We minister to persons who meet our eligibility requirements without regard for creed, race or gender.

Locally on a bi-monthly basis we minister at The Los Angeles Transition Centers in South Los Angeles. These men and women are in recovery from drug and or alcohol abuse and participate in a 12 step program. The fellowship services include praise and worship, a bible lesson and testimonies all in which the clients participate. A meal is served after each meeting. The clients receive a gift at Christmas, Mother's and Father's Day. In 2017-2019 the children of the clients under fifteen years of age received Christmas gifts of clothes toys and gift cards.

Throughout the year single mothers who meet the criteria receive assistance with groceries, rent, transportation or other necessities for their children.

Abundant Life Missions (ALM) financially supports annual outreach activities on skid row in Los Angeles, provides socks for patients in nursing homes, donates for youth activities in the community and to other non-profit ministries. Monthly, the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles are fed, provided socks and beanies during the winter months for Christmas. The also contribute to a ministry that serves women in South Carolina.

Gifts of toiletries and grocery store gift cards have been distributed to the homeless students in 2 high schools at Christmas and during the 2019-20 school year.

Internationally, at least annually ALM ministers in the southern area of Malawi, Central Africa. The team visits rural villages to distribute food, teach Vacation Bible School, teach men's and women's classes and conduct health clinics.

Abundant Life Missions operates an Early Childhood Development Center and a Training Center. Approximately 24 wells have been dug to provide life saving clean water. Three women are selected for training to become Tailors on each visit. At the completion of the program, the women are awarded their sewing machine to begin their business. Twenty-two women have been trained as of December 31, 2020.

Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ was built in 2019-2020 to accommodate the members of Bwanali COGIC who were no longer able to use the church they had been using to worship. That brings to five the total number of churches built by Abundant Life Missions in Malawi.

Bicycles are provided to Pastors to facilitate their travel to other villages to evangelize and conduct church services.

We thank God for West Angeles Church of God in Christ and all of our faithful donors which assists us to do Kingdom work.

The Abundant Life Missions team was unable to travel in 2020 due to the COVID Pandemic and will not travel in 2021. The government is not vaccinating the general public. Abundant Life Missions hopes to travel in 2022.

This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes. Psalm 118:23

ABUNDANT LIFE MISSIONS 2019 report

To God Be The Glory

Greetings Co-laborers and Partners

The members of Abundant Life Missions give God all the glory and praise for the things He did through us in 2019. In fact since our last newsletter there have been more blessings than we can enumerate in this article.

LOCAL MINISTRY

We continue to minister at one of the Los Angeles Transition Center facilities. The Center has moved three times but for more than 13 years we have followed them to each new location. On special days and holidays the residents receive toiletry gifts. On Christmas all of their children under 15 receive gifts of clothes, toys and gift cards. Many souls have been saved and others rededicated their lives to the Lord.

Several homeless women with children were assisted throughout the year with rent, food, clothing other living essentials and Christmas gifts. There are many homeless in our community, and periodically we drive around the area to give them something to eat.

We partnered with several other ministries to provide food, socks and toiletries to the homeless on skid row, nursing home residents, homeless students and others who were in need. Many visits were made to the sick and shut-in.

INTERNATIONALLY

Annually we continue to travel in the month of August to minister to the people in the rural areas of South East Malawi. Our donors have been faithful in their support of the work the Lord has assigned to us.

Two additional missionaries joined us in August 2019. Evangelist Marcia Wilson taught all of the classes and preached a sermon every day for the week she was there. Missionary Makeda Cowan, a Registered Nurse, worked daily in the health clinics for the two weeks we were in Malawi. God is faithful to send laborers into the vineyard..

The Dallas Foundation through the Mitchell/Tufts Foundation Designated Fund contributed the largest grant ever received from them in the amount of $14, 781.00 in 2019. Mr. Sanford Mitchell (deceased) and his sister, Elder Sandra Tufts are personal friends of our President, Missionary Phyllis Leftwich. Elder Tufts is a member of the Presbyterian Church.

We were able to pay the rent for one year for three women who were victims of the terrible cyclone that struck Mozambique and Malawi early in 2019. They are now reestablished in their own housing. Praise the Lord!

We completed the building of New Vision Pentecost Church which is the Headquarters church of Malawi Second Jurisdiction, under the leadership of Bishop Chifundo Mwanandi.

The Tailoring Program graduated four students who received their sewing machines and have started their own businesses. That brings the total number of graduates to twenty-two. Hallelujah!

We are in the fourth phase of building our third Church of God in Christ, Faith Chapel COGIC, which will be completed when the rains stop. West Angeles Church of God in Christ, which gives us a quarterly grant, has donated additional funds for the well to be dug at Faith Chapel. A well was dug in another area in August , 2019.

The Bicycle project continues. Four bicycles were purchased for Pastors and church leaders to facilitate their travel to villages to spread the gospel..

Two pre-school teachers received additional training and a number of pre-school students progressed to Form 1(first grade) in the government school.

This is the Lord's doing, it is marvelous in our eyes. Psalm 118:23
